The Election Commission of India is set to undertake the second phase of a special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and Union Territories, announced Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Monday.
This significant electoral process marks the ninth such revision since India's Independence, with the previous activity occurring between 2002 and 2004. The initial phase of this current SIR successfully concluded in Bihar, with no appeals reported.
Aimed at ensuring comprehensive and accurate voter inclusion, this second phase underscores the continued efforts of electoral officials to maintain updated voter lists. The commission has actively engaged state chief electoral officers in strategizing this rollout. As preparations advance, voter lists post-revision are already being published online by several states.
