The DMK raised significant concerns on Monday regarding the Election Commission of India's (ECI) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Phase 2. Party spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai questioned the transparency of the process, highlighting several issues, including the exclusion of Assam and the disenfranchisement of voters in Bihar.
Annadurai criticized the ECI's intentions behind the voter list revisions, questioning why Assam was left out and raising alarms about potential citizenship criteria being implemented. He accused the ECI of potentially colluding with political entities, lowering its credibility in the process.
Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar clarified that Assam's exclusion was due to unique provisions under the Citizenship Act. Kumar assured that separate orders would address Assam. As the second phase rolls out across 12 states from October 28, Tamil Nadu's DMK alliance has called for an all-party meeting to address these emerging concerns.
