The BJP government in Odisha has called for a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in the recruitment process for sub-inspectors across various departments, including the police, fire, and emergency services. This follows concerns over suspected interstate criminal networks involved in the wrongdoing, as revealed by a statement from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

The investigation so far suggests the corruption may have implications beyond Odisha, spreading to states like Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. It is believed that an organized interstate criminal gang has orchestrated the fraud. Consequently, the Chief Minister has decided to transfer the case to the CBI to ensure that the entire network is uncovered and justice is served.

To date, 123 individuals, including 114 candidates, have been arrested. The recruitment exam was postponed after irregularities were discovered, affecting 1.53 lakh applicants for 933 sub-inspector positions. The state government is also considering forming a permanent body for recruiting personnel in uniformed services to prevent future occurrences.
