Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed his frustration following Liam Delap's late red card in Wednesday's 4-3 League Cup victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers. The incident marked Chelsea's fifth red card in their last nine games, continuing a worrying trend for the club.
Delap, returning from a hamstring injury as a second-half substitute, was booked in the 79th minute for pushing Yerson Mosquera and got sent off just seven minutes later after fouling Emmanuel Agbadou. Maresca didn't mince words, labeling the red card as a 'stupid' and unnecessary mistake.
Maresca emphasized his approach of teaching over punishing, drawing a parallel to his parenting style. Although concerned about the disciplinary issues, he hopes to guide his players towards better on-field decisions. Chelsea sits ninth in the Premier League as they prepare to face Tottenham Hotspur next.
