A special vigilance court in the city has granted conditional bail to 114 candidates arrested in a recruitment scam for police sub-inspectors. This decision came after the individuals were taken into custody over involvement in malpractice during the examination process.

Special vigilance judge Gynendra Kumar Barik set the bail conditions, requiring a bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties for each applicant. The accused have been asked to cooperate with the investigation, led by additional public prosecutor Rajat Kumar Das.

While the court approved bail for the applicants, seven middlemen alleged to have facilitated the scam were denied bail. The CBI is investigating following a state government request, as police had previously arrested a total of 123 individuals accused of engaging in cheating, forgery, and fraud linked to the exam initially scheduled for earlier this month. As a result, the Odisha Police Recruitment Board delayed the examination.
