The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal has sharply criticized the anti-graft body, Lokpal, over its recent decision to procure seven luxury BMW sedans.
Senior TMC figures, including MPs Saket Gokhale and Sushmita Dev, have voiced concerns that an institution meant to combat corruption is indulging in lavish spending. They argue that this allocation of funds, amounting to approximately 10% of Lokpal's annual budget of Rs 44.32 crore, undermines its mission.
Gokhale expressed disbelief over the purchase, questioning the entity's commitment to its foundational objective of fighting corruption. Echoing his sentiment, Dev highlighted that the Narendra Modi government has weakened Lokpal's integrity over the years, leaving it almost inactive.
