South Korean President's Landmark Visit to India Aims to Fortify Strategic Partnership

In a significant move to strengthen the 'Special Strategic Partnership' between two of Asia's leading democracies, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, along with First Lady Kim Hea-kyung, will visit New Delhi this Sunday for a prominent three-day State Visit. This visit, which runs from April 19 to 21, aims to elevate bilateral cooperation in areas such as defense, high-tech manufacturing, and regional security.

The South Korean leader's itinerary includes several high-level engagements meant to reinforce ties between Seoul and New Delhi. Upon his arrival at AFS Palam, President Lee will receive a warm welcome befitting a close strategic ally. His first major engagement will involve a meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to set the agenda for subsequent executive discussions. A formal Ceremonial Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan is scheduled for Monday, followed by a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

The highlight of the visit will be a bilateral summit at Hyderabad House, where President Lee is set to engage in extensive talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The summit is anticipated to result in several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), focusing on cooperation in critical technologies such as semiconductors and green energy, defense production through the 'Make in India' initiative with Korean engineering expertise, and an expanded Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

Post-summit, both leaders are expected to release joint press statements outlining their shared vision for a stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific. Acknowledging the crucial role of the private sector, President Lee will attend a Business Forum at the iconic Bharat Mandapam, bringing together industry titans from both countries to explore potential investment opportunities and strengthen supply chain resilience.

The state visit will conclude with a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, emphasizing the deep cultural and political respect shared by the two nations. President Lee and the First Lady plan to depart New Delhi on Tuesday afternoon, leaving behind a strategic roadmap for an intensified partnership in future years.
