Crackdown on Kanpur's Illegal Kidney Transplant Racket Intensifies

The investigation into the illegal kidney transplant racket in Kanpur saw significant developments on Thursday, with the arrest of two operation theatre technicians, Kuldeep Singh Raghav and Rajesh Kumar. These arrests are part of broader efforts to target hospitals allegedly involved with the expansive network.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) S M Qasim Abidi reported that the two technicians traveled from Delhi for a procedure and received compensation ranging from Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000 per surgery. Authorities are piecing together the intricate details of the operation, which appears to span multiple cities and involve numerous key players.
As police investigate further, more arrests are anticipated. Meanwhile, individuals involved directly in transplants, such as donor Ayush Chaudhary and recipient Parul Tomar, have been moved to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for specialized care. Licenses of implicated hospitals have been revoked, underscoring the ongoing crackdown.
