Cracking Down on Kanpur's Kidney Racket: A Multi-City Scandal Unfolds

The investigation into an illegal kidney transplant racket in Kanpur has intensified as authorities issued lookout notices for four main accused. Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal announced that the search for the doctors involved is expanding, revealing a potential multi-city network connecting hospitals and individuals.

A significant development occurred when Ayush, a suspected donor, provided a statement to the police. He described being lured into the scheme due to financial trouble, initially promised Rs 9 lakh for his kidney but ultimately receiving only Rs 3.5 lakh. This has exposed the complex web involving fake commitments and deceptive practices.

The probe has unveiled alarming violations among private hospitals. Authorities have sealed facilities operating without proper licenses, and insisted on full CCTV coverage, ensuring visibility in all hospital areas. The investigation is ongoing, with fresh advisory orders issued and further arrests expected in the coming days.
