In a recent development, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced its decision to intervene and clear the pending salaries of workers employed under the 'Apla Dawakhana' initiative after the contracted company unexpectedly ceased operations.
Local BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar has actively campaigned for action after scores of employees reported unpaid wages dating back to April. The TMC Deputy Commissioner of Health, Umesh Birari, clarified that it was the contractor's responsibility to pay the salaries and reiterated the corporation's role in safeguarding employee rights.
With a bank guarantee of approximately Rs 2.89 crores in possession, the TMC has outlined plans to address the wage crisis while maintaining clinic operations under the Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir scheme. TMC officials have emphasized adherence to contractual obligations by the contractor.
