Women leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a 'Jan Akrosh Mahila Padyatra' in Shimla on Thursday, advocating for women's reservation and challenging opposition parties over their stance on the issue. The rally, held at Chaura Maidan, attracted a significant number of participants from various districts of Himachal Pradesh, who raised slogans and carried banners against opposition parties, such as the Congress, accusing them of opposing the women's reservation bill.
In an interview with ANI, BJP Mahila Morcha state president Daisy Thakur emphasized the padyatra’s focus on securing women's rights and increasing their political representation. "This padyatra is about advancing women's rights, and participants have gathered with enthusiasm for this movement. The Women's Reservation Bill signifies the long-overdue empowerment women have been awaiting for decades," she stated.
Thakur accused opposition forces of deliberately delaying the bill's implementation for political reasons. She praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts in advocating one-third representation for women in legislatures, noting that those opposed would face consequences in the forthcoming elections. Meanwhile, BJP Himachal Pradesh General Secretary Payal Vaidya echoed similar sentiments, predicting that women voters will respond strongly to the perceived injustices against them. BJP MLA Reena Kashyap and State BJP Vice-President Rashmi Dhar Sood further highlighted the denial of women's rights and targeted opposition leaders for their alleged neglect of women’s issues.
