Tiruppur district set a new benchmark in voter participation during the ongoing Tamil Nadu assembly elections, with an impressive turnout of 62.97%. Officials expressed optimism about a high voter turnout, supported by innovative measures such as women-staffed model polling stations and eco-friendly green polling stations. Special arrangements, including wheelchairs and transportation for differently-abled voters, were also made to ensure inclusivity.
District Election Officer Manish encouraged voters to utilize their right to vote, particularly urging first-time voters to participate. To welcome these new participants, polling booths offered gifts or sweets. Voting opened from 7 a.m. and ran until 6 p.m., with the state witnessing varied participation levels across districts.
Tamil Nadu's Chief Electoral Officer provided detailed voter demographics, highlighting over 5.73 crore total voters, including first-time and service voters. The dominant political contest was between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance. As ballots were cast across 234 constituencies, officials prepared 62 counting centers to handle the results after the polls.
