In a decisive move, the US military seized the oil tanker Majestic X, associated with the smuggling of Iranian oil, in the Indian Ocean on Thursday. This action underscores the ongoing efforts of the US to clamp down on illicit networks facilitating Iran's oil trade.
According to the US Defence Department, this seizure is part of a broader initiative to enforce global maritime laws and target vessels providing material support to Iran. Recent tensions had escalated following Iran's aggressive activities in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iranian forces attacked and captured three cargo ships.
Footage released by the Defence Department shows US troops executing the operation, boarding the Majestic X. Ship-tracking data confirmed the tanker's location between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, not far from where the Tifani, another vessel seized by the US forces, was intercepted. The Majestic X was reportedly en route to Zhoushan, China.
