In a significant development, Ukraine notified Hungarian oil firm MOL of its decision to resume Russian crude supplies through the Druzhba pipeline. This move brings potential resolutions to current tensions, with Budapest possibly unblocking a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine.
The Druzhba pipeline, a geopolitical hotbed, came to a standstill after a Russian drone strike had halted oil deliveries to Hungary and Slovakia. Allegations swirled, with Ukraine accused of delaying repairs—a claim it has firmly denied. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed the repairs, calling for the EU to proceed with the now-unhalted loan.
Hungarian election victor Peter Magyar emphasized the urgency, urging the immediate reopening of the pipeline. As the oil is set to flow again, EU ambassadors in Brussels will re-engage on approving the crucial loan, key for sustaining Ukraine economically through 2026 and 2027 amid ongoing conflict with Russia.
