As the Middle East conflict involving Iran, the US, and Israel enters its 35th day, the repercussions are being felt in India, where cities, including Rishikesh, are battling an ongoing LPG shortage.
In Rishikesh, the energy crisis threatens to disrupt the upcoming Char Dham Yatra, with the hospitality sector being the hardest hit. Hotel owners and roadside dhaba operators are increasingly relying on alternative fuels like wood and coal, facing logistical challenges in their bid to maintain daily operations.
Local restaurant owner Vivek Tiwari explained that while there has been a slight improvement in the supply of commercial LPG, it still falls short of the demand. Meanwhile, another restaurateur, Rishabh, criticized the persistent LPG shortage, revealing that businesses might shut down or hike food prices if the situation does not improve. He warned that the Char Dham Yatra could be adversely affected.
At a recent Informal Group of Ministers meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of the evolving Middle East situation to minimize its impact on India.
