Rishikesh's Hospitality Sector Struggles Amidst LPG Shortage

The hospitality industry in Rishikesh is facing severe disruptions due to a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, leading several hotels and dhabas to either cease operations or revert to traditional cooking methods such as coal and wood. Local business owners express frustration over the gap between government claims and the reality on the ground.

Vivek Tiwari, owner of Tiwari Shudh Vaishno Bhojnalay, called attention to the discrepancies, stating, “The government claims normalcy, but the supply is insufficient.” As Rishikesh serves as a critical gateway to the Char Dham, the shortage couldn't come at a worse time for tourism.

Meanwhile, in response to financial strains due to unregulated supply, Suresh, another Dhaba owner, highlighted rising costs, with black market rates reaching Rs 2,500 per cylinder. The Uttarakhand government has introduced a revised SOP for commercial LPG distribution to stabilize supply and meet demands during peak tourism periods.
