India Temporarily Waives Import Duty on Key Chemicals
India has announced a temporary exemption from import duties on various chemicals including ammonium nitrate and methanol. Effective from April 2 to June 30, the move aims to ease costs associated with importing key industrial materials. Ammonium nitrate also gets a reprieve from the Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess.
India has temporarily lifted import duties on a broad range of essential chemicals, as per a government notice released on Wednesday. The exemptions, which will last from April 2 to June 30, aim to relieve cost pressures on crucial industrial imports.
Among the products benefiting are ammonium nitrate, methanol, styrene, acetic acid, and polyvinyl chloride, according to the government order. This strategic move is expected to facilitate easier access to these materials for businesses reliant on chemical imports.
Additionally, the government has decided to exempt ammonium nitrate from the Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess for the same three-month period, further reducing financial burdens on related industries.
