In a sharp critique of the Modi administration, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala highlighted the significant increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices, which he claims is adding a substantial financial burden on several sectors including dhabas, restaurants, and hotels.

Effective April 1, the 19kg commercial LPG cylinder price surged past Rs 2000 for the first time in 78 years, now costing Rs 2185. Surjewala accused the government of repeated price increases, citing concerns as assembly elections loom in several states, including Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

This price surge arises amid growing geopolitical tensions involving the US, Israel, and Iran, causing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a pivotal oil transit route. In tandem, Aviation Turbine Fuel prices have also risen sharply, exacerbating costs for airlines amidst globally rising crude oil prices.
