In a heated confrontation on Wednesday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu lashed out at the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following its walkout from the Assembly. Sukhu accused the BJP of resorting to disruptive tactics for political advantage rather than engaging in constructive dialogue over Panchayat reservations and entry tax issues.
Addressing the media in Shimla post-Assembly session, CM Sukhu criticized the opposition for lacking substantive contributions and creating chaos for headlines. He suggested BJP's protests were aimed more at intra-party positioning than genuine public interest, highlighting multiple factions within the party and taking a veiled swipe at Randheer Sharma's motivations.
Defending his administration's procedural choices, CM Sukhu rejected claims that an adjournment motion under Rule 67 was needed. He stressed that election scheduling adhered to judicial orders and administrative pragmatism, ensuring minimal disruption to school exams. On entry tax, Sukhu debunked the notion of arbitrary hikes, emphasizing rationalized rates and addressing border check-post confusions, aiming to maintain harmony with neighboring states.
