Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led a crucial meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan on Tuesday, focusing on the state's readiness for Cyclone Montha. This cyclone is poised to make landfall on the Andhra coast before heading towards southern Odisha. Key officials, including Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management Suresh Pujari, other state leaders, and meteorological experts, participated in this session.
Virtual participation by district collectors from cyclone-prone regions marked a comprehensive review of preparations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the intensifying cyclone is currently over the west-central Bay of Bengal. It is anticipated to hit land between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, as a severe cyclonic storm later today.
Coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha have already experienced significant rainfall due to the cyclone's approach. In Odisha's Ganjam district, rough seas and strong winds were reported, while Andhra's Vijayawada recorded heavy rain. Authorities are ensuring the safety of fishermen, with many anchoring their vessels at Gopalpur Port under guidance from the Ganjam district collector. IMD forecasts further rain across several regions, including Tamil Nadu.
