The landfall process of Severe Cyclonic Storm Montha has begun as it prepares to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast near Kakinada within hours, reports the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD issued a notice confirming the storm's approach, emphasizing a vigorous crossing marked by winds peaking at 110 kmph.
Currently positioned 110 km east of Machilipatnam, Montha advances with a north-northwest trajectory, garnering a speed of 17 kmph. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), led by Commandant Gyaneshwar Singh, has stationed 26 teams on alert, while 19 additional crews remain on standby to address the storm's aftermath.
In anticipation, aviation schedules have been drastically altered, with over 35 flights between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh being canceled. Airports in Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry brace for the potential destruction, with airlines like IndiGo and Air India preemptively halting their services.
