The severe cyclonic storm Montha has begun its landfall process off the Andhra Pradesh coast, according to the India Meteorological Department. The event commenced this evening and is expected to persist for three to four hours.

In a timely update posted on the social media platform 'X', the IMD confirmed the start of the landfall process of Montha. At around 7:23 pm, the department specified that the storm's impact is underway.

Montha, which translates to a fragrant flower in Thai, is expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh coastline between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, focusing around Kakinada. The storm is classified as severe with maximum sustained wind speeds of 90 to 100 kmph, and gusts reaching up to 110 kmph.
