Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are experiencing continued heavy rainfall, resulting from a well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal, which is predicted to become a depression soon. The Regional Meteorological Centre has reported its northwestward movement toward the Tamil Nadu coast.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts further intensification over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, expecting the system to cross inland through northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh within 12 hours. Meanwhile, a second low-pressure area is noted over the southeast Arabian Sea, now a depression, and is slowly moving north-northwest.

Rainfall data shows Cuddalore receiving 174 mm, Puducherry 147 mm, and Chennai’s Nungambakkam 86.4 mm. Other significant figures have been recorded across various regions. The IMD warns of more heavy rainfall over north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of Andhra Pradesh. Fishermen should avoid the Bay of Bengal due to squally weather.
