In the wake of the Mundathikode fireworks explosion, Kerala Devaswom Minister V N Vasavan has called for safer alternatives to prevent future accidents. The incident, which took place in Thrissur, resulted in 15 fatalities, prompting urgent discussions between government officials.

Minister Vasavan suggested transforming fireworks displays from loud, sound-focused events to those emphasizing visual appeal using safer, color-oriented formats like those seen at international spectacles such as the Olympics. Efforts are currently ongoing to identify the remains recovered from the explosion site, with DNA testing being conducted on the body parts found.

Vasavan also noted that approximately 38 people were present at the fireworks manufacturing unit at the time of the explosion. He praised the medical support provided to the injured, emphasizing the need for the best possible treatment. This tragic event highlights the necessity for reevaluating fireworks safety protocols, especially during significant events like the Thrissur Pooram.
