In a horrific incident at a Mundathicode fireworks manufacturing unit, authorities recovered nine complete bodies, 32 body parts, and some soft tissue following an explosion on Tuesday. As recovery efforts unfolded, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority emphasized the use of DNA tests to establish the final death toll.

District Collector Shikha Surendran confirmed ongoing search operations and announced the presence of unexploded firecrackers at the site. With four individuals still missing, the situation remains grim, though 10 others have been accounted for and returned home safely. The aftermath has left 11 individuals hospitalized, five of whom are critically injured.

Health Minister Veena George highlighted the challenges in identifying victims due to severe burns, while providing psychological aid to survivors. The explosion, which occurred amid preparatory activities for the Thrissur Pooram, continues to raise questions about the number of individuals present during the blast.
