Justice Lisa Gill has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first woman to head the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Her appointment follows a recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium on February 26.
To ensure a smooth transition, the collegium decided to relocate any judge set to lead a high court two months before they assume their new role. This move allows the judge to familiarize themselves with the court's operations before taking on the responsibilities of chief justice.
Justice Gill, previously serving at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, will succeed Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, who is retiring upon reaching the age of 62. The news was confirmed by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on X.
