The Kerala government is reviewing the safety measures for the upcoming Thrissur Pooram festival following a tragic incident at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Mundathicode that resulted in at least 13 fatalities. The festival's future hangs in the balance as authorities prepare for crucial consultations.

Minister V N Vasavan announced that a decision regarding the continuation of the festival, known for its elaborate fireworks, will be taken after a meeting with key stakeholders. This includes representatives from the Paramekkavu and Thiruvambady Devaswoms, district officials, and festival organizers, scheduled for Thursday morning.

Paramekkavu Devaswom Secretary G Rajesh emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the use of potentially banned chemicals in fireworks before making any definitive decisions. He stressed that public safety and ritual preservation are paramount while investigating the incident's cause. The main festival events, including the iconic elephant displays, are set to occur on April 26.
