The Indian government has sanctioned the procurement of five essential crops in Odisha, ensuring farmers receive minimum support prices. Under a central scheme, moong, urad, groundnut, sunflower, and mustard seed will be purchased.
This decision, approved by Union Agriculture Minister Shivaj Singh Chouhan, follows discussions with Odisha's deputy chief minister. The program, set under PM-AASHA, aims for a transparent 90-day procurement process directly from farmers, with a proposed value exceeding Rs 1,428.31 crore.
Efforts to bolster sunflower cultivation delighted Chouhan, who pledged scientific and technical support. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to agricultural support, minimizing middlemen involvement, and ensuring genuine farmers benefit.
