In a disturbing incident in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, four Census officials, including two women, were reportedly assaulted while performing their duties. The attack occurred in the Mahimanagar area of Kamakshyanagar Notified Area Council, where a team was conducting data collection as part of the ongoing Census exercise.
The incident unfolded when three persons, a man and his two sons, allegedly assaulted the officials who had identified themselves and explained their purpose for visiting. Despite possessing official identification, they faced a violent confrontation, leaving one official, Madhusmita Behera, with facial injuries and damage to her two-wheeler. Another official, Raghunath Dixit, reported sustaining a finger injury during the ordeal.
Authorities are taking the matter seriously, with police investigations underway. Kamakshyanagar sub-collector Dinamani Nayak assured that strict measures will be taken against the attackers, while the two sons involved have been detained. The incident underscores the challenges faced by public servants during such vital national exercises.
