Leader of the Opposition in Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, has taken a significant step by urging the Gauhati High Court to consider abolishing the one-man judicial commission established to investigate the untimely death of Zubeen Garg. His primary concern revolves around potential contradictions with the ongoing investigation conducted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Saikia emphasized the need for a Special Bench to supervise and monitor the SIT's work, ensuring procedural fairness and avoidance of duplication. Saikia argued that a solitary commission lacks the diverse expertise required for such a multifaceted case.

Saikia stressed the importance of a judicially monitored investigation to prevent any miscarriage of justice, citing the lack of extraterritorial authority by the SIT to probe key aspects in Singapore. He labeled leaked confidential reports as detrimental to the integrity of the investigation into Garg's mysterious demise.
