Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has ignited controversy by accusing opposition parties of leveraging the 'Justice for Zubeen Garg' movement to fragment Hindu society. This claim comes in the wake of protests over the mysterious death of the beloved singer in Singapore last month.

Sarma's comments were directed towards author Rita Chowdhury, who criticized the government's new policy restricting visitation hours at Garg's cremation site. Chowdhury, the spouse of a high-ranking state minister, expressed concerns that the restrictions could exacerbate public grief.

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has organized candlelight vigils in support of the movement, with political tensions rising. CM Sarma, maintaining a defiant stance, insists on the need for law and order over public sentiment, claiming political gain for the BJP amidst the ongoing unrest.
