Amid escalating tensions over the semiconductor industry, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge launched a defense against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday. Kharge accused Sarma and the BJP of deliberately distorting his recent comments about semiconductor investment preferences, saying they had been misconstrued to divert attention from Assam's governance issues.
Kharge criticized Sarma for Assam's poor development indicators under BJP rule, citing NITI Aayog's report that places Assam among the least developed states in health, education, and economic growth. The Karnataka minister alleged corruption and negligence, insisting that Sarma's administration benefits only a select few at the expense of the state's youth seeking employment opportunities.
Looking to the future, Kharge assured that a Congress resurgence in Assam would prioritize transparency, employment, and skill development, aiming to rejuvenate public trust. His remarks followed a heated response from Sarma, who lashed out at Kharge, calling him derogatory terms and suggesting potential legal action over alleged insults to Assamese youth.
