Sydney Sweeney, celebrated for her roles in acclaimed series like 'Everything Sucks!', 'The Handmaid's Tale', and 'Sharp Objects', has expressed her desire to explore unconventional projects that surprise audiences. Her latest venture, 'Christy', a 2025 biographical sports drama, sees her portraying the famed professional boxer Christy Martin. Directed by David Michod, the film delves into Martin's rise as America’s top female boxer in the 1990s and the chilling attempt on her life by her husband in 2010.

The film premiered at AFI Fest, where Sweeney shared her enthusiasm for the project. "Christy's story is just absolutely phenomenal," she said, noting her dual role as both the star and producer of the film. 'Christy' aims to raise awareness about Martin's inspiring journey and her role as an advocate. "As an actor, it's a dream to play diverse characters, putting on different hats and shoes," Sweeney told The Hollywood Reporter.

Preparing for the role was intense; she underwent months of boxing training, gaining 30 pounds. "Every single fight you see is the same that she fought in the ring," she explained, emphasizing her commitment to authenticity. Despite this transformative experience, Sweeney remains open to exploring new challenges. With upcoming projects like 'The Housemaid' and 'Euphoria’s' third season, she continues to seek roles that challenge and excite her.
