Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress of neglecting Khadi after India's independence, contrasting this with the significant strides made under the current government. He noted that the Khadi and Village Industries Commission's turnover has skyrocketed from Rs 33,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 1.70 lakh crore today.

At the 'Khadi Karigar Mahotsav' event, Shah highlighted that the advancements in Khadi could have alleviated unemployment if initiated earlier. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts in promoting Khadi through public programs, thus reviving its prominence and enhancing the livelihood of numerous artisans.

The celebration at Maharshi Dayanand University saw the distribution of tool kits to over 2,200 artisans and Rs. 301 crore as margin money under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme. These efforts are part of a broader initiative themed 'Swadeshi Se Swaavlamban', underscoring Khadi's importance in building a self-reliant India.
