Czech Politics: Andrej Babis Returns to Potential Power

Czech President Petr Pavel has officially tasked Andrej Babis, leader of the populist ANO party, with spearheading the formation of a new government, marking a potential return to power for the former prime minister. This development follows ANO's recent electoral victory.

The party has been in negotiations with the eurosceptic Motorists and the far-right SPD parties, aiming to finalize a government agenda that hints at higher fiscal spending and diverging from current policies on Ukraine and EU regulations. Together, the coalition seeks control over 108 of the 200 parliamentary seats.

Babis, who aims to solidify his government by mid-December, will face scrutiny over conflicts of interest related to his business dealings. Meanwhile, President Pavel, focusing on foreign policy and security, encourages continued military support for Ukraine as power transitions unfold.
