The Delhi government has taken a significant step forward in supporting girl children's education and financial security by launching the 'Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana'. This new initiative, introduced on March 30, aims to offer phased financial assistance from birth until higher education milestones are achieved.
The scheme effectively replaces the former Ladli Scheme and promises up to Rs 61,000 in financial aid, maturing to Rs 1.20 lakh with interest. Assistance is linked to age and education-related achievements, starting with Rs 11,000 at birth, and subsequent instalments awarded upon reaching key educational levels.
Eligibility criteria, including a Delhi-based birth and an annual family income cap at Rs 1.20 lakh, ensure that the benefits reach those in genuine need. The programme encourages prolonged education, prevents early marriage, and supports progression into higher education, with a substantial budget allocation and strategic payment plans in place.
