Delhi Congress Raises Concerns Over Booth Level Agents in Voter Verification

The Delhi Congress has voiced its concerns about the potential legal and procedural complications stemming from party-appointed booth level agents being allowed to certify voter details. In a recent communication to the Delhi chief electoral officer, the party highlighted various issues surrounding the responsibilities of verification, transparency, and the outdated nature of electoral references.

Party President Devender Yadav criticized the current system, where booth level agents can collect and certify numerous voter forms daily, calling it impractical and legally inappropriate. Yadav emphasized that the onus of verifying voter application details should remain with election officials, cautioning against shifting this responsibility to political parties, which could lead to disputes.

Additionally, the use of the 2002 electoral roll was questioned due to extensive changes in constituency boundaries. Yadav requested area-wise mapping details and the provision of updated photo electoral rolls to facilitate accurate voter identification, underlining the logistical challenges posed by outdated documents.
