The Bombay High Court, on March 30, granted bail to Sanjay More, the driver involved in a tragic electric bus accident in Mumbai, after eight months in custody. Justice R M Joshi expressed shock at the inadequate training provided to drivers operating these new buses.
This incident, where a bus operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) hit nine individuals in Kurla, has spotlighted the administration's failure to deliver adequate practical training. Despite being contractually obliged to offer seven days of driver training, the period was inexplicably reduced to just three days and limited to simulator sessions.
More, who had no record of substance influence, faced overwhelming pressure due to limited employment opportunities, making it difficult to refuse driving an electric bus without proper training. The court criticized the rationale behind insufficient training for such critical roles, underscoring a systemic issue that contributed to this tragic accident.
