The protest, which unfolded at Dharna Chowk, saw retailers accusing companies of shrinking their margins by about Rs 10 per kg, a move they say threatens their businesses.
Despite the growing burden of bills and expenses, including electricity and water, the protest led to temporary shop closures across various parts of the city.
