The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) welcomed the decision to delay the tabling of the FCRA Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha and described ongoing concerns over its potential passage. CBCI's public relations officer, Robinson Rodrigues, confirmed that communications have been made to key political figures, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Rodrigues appreciated the support from opposition MPs and the temporary deferment granted by the government. He emphasized that while the postponement is a positive step, their advocacy must persist, recognizing the legislation's potential impact as a 'humanitarian issue.'
Furthermore, CBCI announced plans to engage in further discussions with Indian leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister Shah, to address their concerns, especially considering upcoming electoral events.
