The Special MP/MLA Court in Gauriganj temporarily suspended legal proceedings against Rakesh Pratap Singh, the local MLA accused of assaulting a BJP leader within a police station. The Special Magistrate, Shubham Verma, issued this decision following a submission of an Allahabad High Court directive by the defence.

On March 17, the high court paused the proceedings until further orders, responding to a petition filed by co-accused Prashant Singh. This case traces back to a May 10, 2023 incident, where Deepak Singh, spouse of municipal council chairperson Rashmi Singh, was allegedly attacked inside the Gauriganj police station.

Following an investigation, police filed a chargesheet involving MLA Singh and nine others. Although Singh was ousted from the Samajwadi Party in 2025 for conflicting with party principles, he continues to serve as an Independent MLA from Gauriganj. The court has scheduled April 16 for the next hearing.
