Air India is pushing forward with a comprehensive overhaul of its fleet as part of a transformative five-year plan, said CEO Campbell Wilson on Wednesday. The airline plans to complete the refurbishment of its legacy Boeing 787-8 aircraft by mid-2027 and its 777 fleet by early 2028.
With deliveries of new Boeing 787 Dreamliners set to begin between December and January, Air India aims to expand its wide-body fleet significantly, including the introduction of A350 planes. Wilson emphasized that a new wide-body aircraft will be added every six weeks for the next two years, with two A350-1000 aircraft expected by the next financial year.
Amid these efforts, the Tata Group-owned airline, currently burdened by losses, continues to face challenges such as technical issues with older aircraft models. Addressing these issues, Air India has already completed the retrofit of its entire legacy A320neo fleet. Wilson shared these updates at the Aviation India and South Asia 2025 conference in New Delhi.
