Nepal's Supreme Court began a preliminary hearing on a writ petition that contests the legality of the newly formed interim government and the dissolution of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
The apex court refused to issue an interim order against the dissolution but asked the defendants, including the Office of the President, to submit a written explanation within a week regarding why such an order shouldn't be issued.
After the Gen Z movement led to the resignation of then Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, President Ramchandra Paudel appointed former chief justice Sushila Karki as interim prime minister and announced a general election for March 5, 2026. Legal experts argue that these actions violate the constitution.
