The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC) wing of Puducherry has apprehended three retired health department officials for allegedly procuring substandard medicines and medical equipment for government health facilities. The officials were implicated in purchases dating back to 2018.

An investigation was initiated after complaints from the health department. This revealed significant breaches in procurement protocols for medical supplies distributed to healthcare centers across the union territory. Legal proceedings have commenced under Sections 409 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code, along with the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
