Pitching Arunachal Pradesh as India's next major gateway to Southeast Asia, Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed the state's potential to become a 'vibrant bridge' linking India with Bhutan and Myanmar. His comments followed a discussion with noted economist Prof Mahendra P Lama about reopening trade routes.
Khandu said Lama's insights on inclusive border development and sustainable connectivity were enlightening. The Chief Minister highlighted that developing these corridors could redefine connectivity for the border state, extending benefits beyond mere infrastructure.
The proposed trade routes align with India's Act East Policy, targeting stronger economic ties with neighboring countries. Officials believe opening regulated land border trading points will boost local markets, promote tourism, and enhance cultural exchanges, generating employment in remote areas.
