Elon Musk's Starlink is poised to revolutionize the Indian satellite broadband landscape, as it readies to perform crucial demo-runs in Mumbai. Scheduled for October 30 and 31, these demonstrations aim to showcase compliance with necessary security and technical regulations ahead of the company's commercial launch in the country.
Sources revealed to PTI that Starlink's trial will utilize a provisionally assigned spectrum, to verify adherence to security norms and technical stipulations outlined in the GMPCS authorization. The focus is on demonstrating capability and reliability in its gateway location in Mumbai.
The event has garnered significant attention, as Starlink competes with Bharti-backed Eutelsat OneWeb and Reliance Jio-SES to capture the evolving satcom market in India. As the satellite broadband industry is set to expand exponentially, reaching an estimated value of USD 15 billion by 2033, these developments hold promising prospects for connectivity advancements in underserved areas.
