Mumbai's Green Revolution: Electric Buses Transform BEST Fleet

In a significant move towards sustainable urban transit, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has unveiled 157 new electric buses for Mumbai's Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) fleet. This initiative is part of a larger plan to integrate 5,000 zero-emission buses, marking a pivotal step in transforming India's financial hub into a greener city.
Addressing a gathering at the Colaba depot, Fadnavis highlighted the essential role of a robust bus service in supporting Mumbai's metro and railway networks. He urged BEST's management to explore innovative non-fare revenue options to support the financial viability of Mumbai's public transport system. The launch of these buses is seen as a moment of joy for Mumbaikars, emphasizing sustainable, clean public transport.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde lauded the project as a crucial advancement towards an eco-friendly transportation system. He criticized the previous administration for neglecting BEST services and credited the current government for revitalizing it with substantial funding. The new fleet, featuring predominantly Olectra and PMI buses, promises a comfortable, pollution-free travel experience for Mumbai's commuters.
