Mumbai Climate Week: India's Leap Toward Global Climate Leadership

In a bold move for climate action leadership, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the inaugural edition of Mumbai Climate Week, slated for February 17-19 at the Jio World Convention Centre. Jointly organized by Project Mumbai and the Maharashtra Government's Department of Environment and Climate Change, the event promises to be a pivotal platform in climate discourse.
The aim of Mumbai Climate Week is to provide a major platform for climate action across the Global South. Chief Minister Fadnavis emphasized the urgent need to transition from mere dialogue to tangible actions in addressing climate change. "Mumbai Climate Week is not just a celebration of climate efforts; it will mobilize citizens, businesses, and institutions into actionable initiatives, setting benchmarks for Maharashtra and Mumbai," he stated.
Leading climate experts and representatives from over 30 countries are expected to converge in Mumbai, crafting a practical climate action plan alongside city leaders, state chief ministers, and civil society groups. Shishir Joshi, CEO of Project Mumbai, highlighted, "The event marks a historic step, uniting voices of the Global South and empowering climate-resilient communities through collaboration." Major partners include Monitor Deloitte, The Climate Group, and UNICEF among others.
