In an exciting move for Indian sports, India has been selected by FIFA to partake in its Women’s Development Programme, joining 11 other countries in this global initiative. This program aims to reinforce the commercial and strategic aspects of women’s football in India, marking a significant advancement in the sport.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed this inclusion, following a comprehensive application process. The program, tailored specifically by FIFA, will run online from May to October 2026, providing critical tools and strategies for various stakeholders in women’s football across India.

AIFF Deputy Secretary General, M Satyanarayan, emphasized the opportune timing for boosting India’s commercial foothold in women's football. This initiative aligns with AFC’s upcoming women’s club licensing system and supports clubs in securing sponsorships, engaging fans, and developing sustainable models to benefit the entire ecosystem.
