Olympic champion Richard Carapaz has undergone surgery for a perineal condition just one month before the Giro d'Italia. Determined to compete once more, the Ecuadorean cyclist aims for his fourth podium finish in the prestigious race.
Carapaz, who clinched gold in the Tokyo Olympics road race, had to miss both the Tour de France and the Vuelta a Espana last year due to illness. Now, he is channelling all his efforts into recovery.
Posting on Instagram, the 32-year-old acknowledged the unexpected surgical hurdle but expressed optimism about his road to recovery and return to peak performance in time for the Giro.
